In the Indo-Aryan Rigveda, the morning sun often appears in the form of the horse (aśva) Dadhikra (“one to whom curd-dadhi is offered”) with an eagle’s head, which is not only winged, but also resembles an eagle pouncing on its prey. Dadhikra is a symbol of aspiration, action, the “breath of life” and, with the blessing of Indra, leads people to success.
