Around 85,000 years ago, Homo sapiens pushed further east toward Asia. To get there, they would either have to go around or travel straight through the Iranian Plateau and the towering Himalayas. As the April page of our 12,025 Human Era calendar shows, those who first braved the mountains most likely found them too great a challenge. But despite the hardships, our ancestors eventually made it through. In fact, archeological findings over 2,000 meters above sea level suggest that humans not only conquered these rugged heights, but some even made them their home.
